CJ Metz co-founded Sill & Glade Cabin, a destination recording studio in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, where he works as the in-house engineer and producer. He’s been a songwriter and musician for 20+ years, fronting indie-rock band The Milestones before moving into audio engineering in 2018. His philosophy is that the best music comes from a place of comfort and authenticity, and sessions at the cabin focus less about pressure or perfection, and more about helping artists feel at ease so they can do their best work.

This talk walks through the very unplanned path that led us to founding Sill & Glade Cabin - a cabin recording studio - after buying a mountain cabin on a bit of an impulse. It’s about doubling down on the skills we already had, surviving plenty of “oh shit” moments, and letting the wrong plans fall apart when they needed to.
